*Although the photographic examples displayed here are all women, this procedure is also appropriate for men. They most commonly seek improvement in the flank (“love handle”) area and abdomen or the neck.

If you have done everything you can to firm up and lose weight, but are still left with isolated fat deposits, you may be a candidate for liposuction.

Liposuction can improve your body contour by removing diet and exercise-resistant fat deposits. Common locations for liposuction include neck, upper arms, back, flanks, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, and knees.

A different type of procedure (brachioplasty, abdominoplasty, buttock lift, body lift, or thigh lift ) may be more appropriate if you have loose skin and/or stretch marks.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This highly effective outpatient procedure is usually performed in 1 to 3 hours, though the overall time depends on the number of areas being treated. It is very usefull for treatment of isolated areas, but is not a substitute for overall weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

RECOVERY

Recovery from liposuction is fairly simple. You may have extensive bruising and swelling as a result of the procedure, but there will not be any stitches to remove. The scars are very small and placed inconspicuously. You will be able to resume regular activity in just a few days to a week, though strenuous exercise should wait until healing is complete at 4 – 6 weeks. During this time, you will be wearing a supportive garment. The garment will make you more comfortable and help to decrease swelling and smooth your contour. Despite this, you should be able to see a noticeable change in both size and shape in the first few days.

Although you will be able to get back to a normal life fairly quickly, it can take anywhere from 1 to 6 months for all of the swelling and bruising to subside completely.
