A buttock lift is performed to remove loose skin of the buttocks and reshape them. It can also lift the lateral thigh. When performed with an abdominoplasty it is called a “body” or “lower body” lift. It can also be performed with an inner thigh lift. For the first few weeks, you will need to “perch” at the edge of your chair or sit in higher chairs in order to avoid stretching the scar in the back.

The scars are placed at the patient’s waistline or somewhat below depending on personal preference. Although done in the past, scars angling across the buttock (bikini line) generally cause contour problems and often widen. Buttock lifts usually involve some liposuction of the outer thigh to allow the skin to move up more freely.

Although you will be able to do light activity fairly early, most people do take one to two weeks off of work. After surgery you will have drains to help to avoid fluid from collecting in the surgical area. These will be removed after the drainage has subsided at about a week. You will also be dressed in a girdle-like garment for at least 3 weeks. Excessive bending at the waistline during this time frame should be avoided to prevent stretching the incision line (widening the scar).

The stitches will be covered by surgical tape that will stay on until the sutures are removed or dissolve. You do not need to do anything to take care of the incisions.
